Tuesday's home match against United State Sports University was the first that the Lady Bears played in over a week.
And they showed no signs of rust whatsoever as they took control of the match early and got a big boost from freshman Nicole Galvan as she recorded a hat trick and added an assist as Southwest won 4-0.
"Actually, nothing changed," she said talking about her play. "I just wanted to have fun. I wanted to give 100-percent and I usually do."
Galvan added that her offense helped make the process easier as there was stellar ball control and better spacing against the Eagles.
Her first goal came in just the eighth minute as the Lady Bears (3-0) got their offense established quickly. Galvan got a beautiful pass from Ava Benton before finding the back of the net putting Southwest up 1-0.
Still implementing their aggressive style, the Lady Bears made it a 2-0 game in the 17
th minute when Ellyana Holman found Galvan before the Mexico City-native scored.
In the 32
nd minute the score increased to 3-0 after Galvan was set up by an Evie Peet pass before sending the ball past the Eagle goalkeeper.
The duo shined once again early in the second half only with the roles reversed as Galvan capped off her huge night with an assist to Peet who scored in the 49
th minute making the score the eventual final.
After the match, Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper shined light on the play of her freshman midfielder.
"Nicole (Galvan), she's been amazing for us," Cooper said. "I think through three games, she has five goals already, including the hat trick today. That is what we look for in our out-of-state and international players, those kind of stats, that kind of leadership. I'm really excited to see what she does in the rest of the season but already she is off to a really great start."
