Box Score Rebounding from a tough loss against Meridian on Tuesday, the Lady Bears played a better brand of soccer Friday at No. 3 Northwest but couldn't get the consistency they needed, falling 4-1 to the Rangers.
"They are the defending national champions and a very, very good program," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "I wasn't upset with our overall performance. It was one of our overall better performances against a nationally-ranked opponent."
The Lady Bears (6-6-3, 2-6-2 MACCC) fell behind in the 11
th minute as the Rangers got their offense established early. The score, unfortunately, built momentum for the hosts as they scored two additional goals over the next 7:00 of play putting Southwest down 3-0.
That score stayed true throughout the remainder of the first half. The Lady Bears got on the board in the 57
th minute when Nicole Galvan scored on an Evie Peet goal making it a 3-1 game.
But Northwest added one more in the 70th minute making the score the eventual final.
Southwest returns home Tuesday to host Pearl River at 5 p.m. in the season finale.
