Nicole Galvan sets Southwest points record with 4 goals and 2 assists against UA Cossatot

On Saturday, September 12th Southwest Women's Soccer hosted the UA Cossatot Colts for their first home match of the season.

Zoey Brown opened up the match in a hurry for the Lady Bears with a goal in the first few minutes of play.

The Colts slowed the momentum with strong defense but ultimately fell behind as the Lady Bears came away with a 3-0 lead at the half with goals from Nicole Galvan and Cori Bergeron.

Cossatot continued their good defense into the second half and even put a goal on the board to make it 3-1 with Southwest still leading.

After a scoreless twenty minutes to open the half, Nicole Galvan subbed back in and took over.

Galvan scored a second half hat trick within a ten-minute span to extend the Southwest lead to 6-1.

Zoey Brown would net her second goal of the match to cap off the scoring and move the Lady Bears to final score of 7-1 over the Colts.

Nicole Galvan finished the match with 4 goals and 2 assists in a 10-point performance, the highest in Southwest Women's Soccer history.

Zoey Brown had 2 goals and 1 assist.

Cori Bergeron had 1 goal and 1 assist.

Wesley Porter (x2), Sophia Mitchell, and Aubrey Allison each added their own assists to the total.

Addison Champagne played all 90 minutes in goal with 7 saves and only 1 goal allowed.

The Lady Bears improved their record to 3-2-1 after their win of UA Cossatot.

Nicole Galvan leads the way for the Lady Bears this season with 7 goals and 3 assists at they head into conference play.

"Nicole is consistently a player that shows up in big ways game after game. She's in the forefront of our attack this season, she has helped create an explosive offense and is being the best representation for our underclassmen," said Head Coach Nicole Cooper, "she's currently for the scoring record with 19 goals with 11 games left to play."

"We've been working on our offenses and being more creative in the attack. This win helped the team realize the amount of scoring opportunities we can create. It's exactly what we need to go into this week's matchups," said Cooper on how this win builds confidence before big ranked matchups against Pearl River and Northwest.

The Lady Bears (3-2-1) head to Poplarville on Tuesday, September 15th to take on #10 Pearl River.
