Lady Bear Soccer kicks off season with dominant 5-0 win

Southwest Women's Soccer started the regular season with trip to Texas to play Jacksonville College and Trinity Valley.

On Friday, August 21st the Lady Bears played Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas.

After a scoreless 29 minutes, Liliana Vazquez started the scoring with a 30th minute goal for Southwest.

Just a few minutes later, Sophomore Captain Nicole Galvan scored a 37th minute goal assisted by Trinity Stokes.

The Lady Bears took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Adrien Collier pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 57th minute goal assisted by Nicole Galvan.

Galvan was not done yet as she added a second goal to the stat sheet in the 75th minute to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Lady Bears.

Ellyana Holman capped off the scoring in the 87th to give the Southwest a 5-0 lead to take home a W in the regular season opener.

Addison Champagne spent all 90 minutes in goal for Southwest allowing 0 goals on 3 saves.

Nicole Galvan put up a stellar performance with 2 goals and 1 assist to capture the first win of the season for the Lady Bears.

"I'm a firm believer that confidence comes from preparation. The result today shows that our girls have been working hard in every aspect we need in order to find success on the field," said Head Coach Nicole Cooper, "our chemistry off the field, and the culture we're developing within the program definitely helped give us the win today."

"Nicole is such a fun and exciting player to watch and consistently gives us results on the pitch. Nicole, along with our other captain, Zoey, are is extremely passionate and consistently shows up every day to lead our girls and get the best out of each individual," said Coach Cooper about the impact her Captains have on and off the field, "they will be a big part of our success in developing a winning culture here at Southwest."

The Lady Bears stayed on the road in Texas after moving to 1-0 on the season to take on #9 Trinity Valley in Athens, Texas on Sunday, August 23rd.

Southwest took on the #9 Ranked Division 1 Cardinals on Sunday morning.

The Lady Bears kept it close in the first half before Trinity Valley began to pull away resulting in a 0-6 loss for Southwest, moving their record to 1-1 on the season.

Addison Champagne spent all 90 minutes in goal once again and had 10 saves against the Cardinals.

The Lady Bears will travel to Daphne, Alabama on Wednesday, August 26th to take on United States Sports University.
