Box Score On a night full of emotion as several sophomores were recognized, the Lady Bears played hard but didn't have quite enough in the end to overcome a rough start, falling to Meridian 5-2, Tuesday.
The match began later than the 5:00 scheduled start due to a lightning delay.
"Our tempo and our momentum were shifting with the delay and we just didn't play great soccer," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "If we show up and play our best, then we would have different results, but it is just unfortunate."
The Lady Bears (6-5-3, 2-5-2 MACCC) fell behind early as the Eagles scored in both the eighth and ninth minutes putting the hosts down 2-0.
Southwest continued to fight and cut the lead in half in the 27
th minute when Chloe Beth Rodriguez found Zoey Brown before the latter sent the ball in making it a 2-1 game.
Meridian struck first in the second half with a goal in the 50
th minute putting the Lady Bears down by two once again.
A goal from Evie Peet in the 59
th minute reduced the deficit once again making the score 3-2.
But the momentum could not be kept up as the Eagles scored the final two goals of the match.
Southwest will play its final road match on Friday visiting No. 3 Northwest at 5 p.m. in Senatobia.
