Lady Bears battle, fall to No. 4 Holmes

Playing against arguably one of their tougher opponents thus far this year, the Lady Bears put up a fight against No. 4 Holmes at home Tuesday but could not pick up the win in the end, falling 2-0.

"We came out and tried to change our style of play and made some adjustments based off of their attack because it is different," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "We showed up and played our hardest especially against a nationally-ranked opponent."

The Lady Bears (6-2-3, 2-2-2 MACCC) went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs early on as both teams tried to set the tone.

Unfortunately, though, it was the visitors who did so first jumping up 1-0 in the 35th minute with a goal.

After regrouping at the half, the Lady Bears looked for the equalizer but Holmes increased its lead in the 59th minute with another goal making it a 2-0 score.

Southwest showed grit and tenacity not only trying to get back in the contest but also prevent the Bulldogs from pulling away.

Even though the Lady Bears continued to compete and keep Holmes in check, they could not get back into the contest.

Southwest returns to action on Friday at Itawamba at 1 p.m.
