Lady Bears finish tied with host East Central

In the final road test of the season, the Lady Bears came up just short of pulling out a win over the East Central Lady Warriors as the hosts got a late goal tying the match which ended in a 1-1 draw.

"Tonight was a tough one, it was not one of our better games," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "And our scoreline showed that. We just have to finish our chances a little better and all-in-all we have to play better."

The Lady Bears (5-8-3, 2-7-1 MACCC) came out looking to be the firsts to light up their side of the scoreboard. But it was the defenses for both teams who stole the show in the first half, holding the offenses of their respective opponents scoreless.

Southwest broke through in the 65th minute when Kayla Martin sent a ball past the East Central goalkeeper on a penalty kick putting the Lady Bears ahead 1-0.

The momentum, however, was short-lived as East Central got its offense into rhythm before getting the tying goal in the 73rd minute.

Down the stretch, the Lady Bears pushed hard to try and get the go-ahead score but was unsuccessful.

Southwest wraps its season on Tuesday hosting Co-Lin at 5 p.m. on Sophomore Night.
