In the home stretch of the regular season, the Lady Bears were hoping to finish strong in their final two matches at home, the first of which coming Friday against Itawamba. And despite putting together a comeback effort in the second half, Southwest was unable to pull even in the end, falling 2-1 to the Lady Indians.
"It is hard when you go down 2-0," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "We have typically been a second half team. That has been where we would produce and score but we just need to work on being a little more consistent in the first half."
During that first half, the Lady Bears (4-11, 2-8 MACCC) found themselves down 2-0 after the Lady Indians scored in the 14
th and 30
th minutes.
Southwest came out in the second half with new life, playing a better brand of soccer. And it showed on the scoreboard when Tristan Byrd found the back of the net on a corner kick from Juliette Charriez Rivera in the 78
th minute, cutting the visitors' lead in half.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bears could not get the equalizer.
Southwest wraps the regular season on Tuesday at home against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Sophomore Night.
