Lady Bears drop 3-1 decision to Holmes

The Southwest soccer teams dropped a pair of games to visiting Holmes Community College Tuesday as the Lady Bears went down 3-1 and the Bears were defeated 1-0.

Both teams will be in action on Sunday when they travel to Senatobia to face Northwest Mississippi for games postponed from August 28 due to Hurricane Isaac. Game times are 2:00 for the ladies and 4:00 for the men.

After a scoreless first half, the Holmes ladies (2-1) took a 1-0 at 47:00 on an unassisted goal by Tara Turner. Shannon Locke extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal at 55:00.

Casey Lyle’s shot found the back of the goal after a pass from Jana Cooper to put the Lady Bears (1-1) back in to the game at 2-1 at 67:00. Southwest could come no closer, however, as Rachel Geissler scored the final goal of the game at 71:00 to give the visitors their final margin of victory.

Southwest keeper Erin Sumrall saved five of the eight Holmes shots on goal.
