Lady Bears come up short against Meridian

Hoping to turn things around following tough losses last week, the Lady Bears entered Tuesday's home contest against Meridian aiming to get the win against the Eagles. And despite plenty of positives, ultimately, the miscues were difficult to recover from as the Lady Bears fell 4-0.

"We are struggling a little bit with making simple mistakes that are avoidable and that that is going to be the difference in us winning and losing," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "They had a very dangerous player up top and she can score and put some goals away. We have a hard time trying to apply things that we are saying. They understand but we are not applying it."

Southwest (3-4-2, 0-3 MACCC) fell behind early as Meridian got on the board in the 6th minute with a goal.

The Lady Bears looked for the equalizer but could not get their offense going. The Lady Eagles added to their lead late in the first half getting another goal making it a 2-0 game.

About 5:00 into the second half, the deficit unfortunately grew for Southwest as Meridian found the back of the net once again putting the Lady Bears down 3-0.

The final Lady Eagle goal came in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick. The Lady Bears pressed on and showed a much more aggressive push towards the end but could not get into rhythm and climb back into the ball game.

Southwest will be back in action on Friday as it hosts No. 5 Holmes at 5:00 p.m.
