Playing in arguably the toughest portion of their schedule, the Lady Bears entered Tuesday's road match against No. 1 Holmes, just days removed from Friday's tough loss at No. 3 Northwest Mississippi.
And despite playing hard, and pulling even with the Lady Bulldogs early on, they could not hold on, falling 7-1.
"Honestly, this was some of our better soccer and I know that our score line doesn't reflect that," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "You can take a lot of positives away from today especially the attack that we had. We had a couple of (additional) opportunities on goal."
The Lady Bears (2-7, 0-4) had their hard work show up on the scoreboard early on, thanks in part to a local product. Trailing 1-0 in the 17
th minute, Amari Simmons – a North Pike grad – tied the game at 1 with her first goal of the season.
Unfortunately for Southwest, the Lady Bears could not build off of the momentum. The Lady Bulldogs answered back with three additional goals in the first half, making it a 4-1 contest at intermission before adding three more in the second half, rounding out the scoring.
The Lady Bears will once again be on the road for their next match as they travel to Wesson on Friday afternoon to face Co-Lin.
