Following a long four-game road trip, the Lady Bears returned to Summit to host Hinds on Saturday and they proved that there's no place like home.
Fueled by a hat trick from freshman Kayla Martin, a strong and aggressive defense and both Hannah Case and Peyton Alexander notching their first scores of the regular season, the Lady Bears put together their most complete match of the season, topping Hinds 7-0.
"I thought that we had a really good first half, we came with high intensity," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "We talked about what we do at practice and how it need to translate to our play and I think that it did."
It didn't take long for the Lady Bears (3-9, 1-6) to make a statement. Just 1:15 into the match, Martin made her presence known with a goal on an assist from Aoife Saunders.
Just 3:02 later, she stepped up once again with her second goal on the night, this time on an assist from Juliette Charriez Rivera.
"I was just feeling it," Martin said. "The weather was good, the atmosphere was good, everything was good. I just had a good start to the game."
Her strong start helped fire up her teammates and the momentum stayed on the home side. Southwest added to its lead late in the first half as Alexander got her goal on an assist from Caroline Barcelona.
Early in the second half, it was Barcelona's turn to enter the fray. The freshman from Slidell, LA sent a beautiful volley shot in from about 40 yards out after getting an assist from Maylee McLeod. The score made it a 4-0 game.
The hits kept coming for the Lady Bears as Martin notched her third and final goal of the evening just :24 later.
Following in the footsteps of Barcelona, Saunders followed up her assist earlier in the match with a goal of her own in the 58
th minute on an assist from Rose Coats extending the Lady Bear lead to 6-0.
Case rounded-out the scoring for the Lady Bears with her first of the season in the 69
th minute.
