Following strong performances during the last two matches, the Lady Bears were unfortunately unable to keep things going Tuesday at Meridian, falling 5-2 to the Lady Eagles.
"If we don't come out to start the game and match the intensity of the team that we are playing against, they are going to take advantage of that," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "In the first half, we had a good bit of scoring opportunities. Some stuff wasn't falling our way and we just have to execute better in the attacking third."
The Lady Bears (4-10, 2-7 MACCC) fell behind 3-0 in the first half as the Lady Eagles scored in the 6
th, 18
th and 43
rd minutes.
Just four minutes into the second half, Southwest got things going as Hannah Case found the back of the net, making a 3-1 game.
After the Lady Eagles pushed the Lady Bears deficit back to three in the 61
st minute, Caroline Barcelona answered back 13 minutes later, cutting the Meridian lead in half at 4-2.
The momentum, unfortunately ran out for Southwest as Meridian added one more in the 86
th minute on a penalty kick, rounding out the scoring.
The Lady Bears return home on Friday hosting Itawamba at 5 p.m.
