Lady Bears have their way with SAU Tech

Shooting 70.4% from the field, the Lady Bears had their way with the Lady Rockets of Southern  Arkansas University Tech Saturday afternoon in  a 98-44 win.
 
Jolie Williams put the Lady Bears up early, 2-0, and they never looked back as they ran their record to 2-1 on the young season.
 
Back-to-back layups from Williams at the end of the first quarter left the Lady Bears with a 22-7 lead after the first 10:00 of play.
 
The Lady Bears maintained their control of the game in the second quarter, with a pair D'Mya Wilson free throws giving them their largest lead of the half, 46-14, with 1:41 on the clock. They then carried a 47-18 advantage into intermission.
 
It was more of the same in the second half. With 5:28 left in the third quarter, the Lady Bears extended their lead to 57-18 on a Shylia McGee basket. They went on to hold a 67-29 lead with the fourth quarter remaining.
 
A long-range jumper by Sydni Tangle put the Lady Bears on top 90-37 with 3:45 left in the fourth quarter and they went on to claim the 54-point victory.
 
"Today was obviously a good day," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "We got everybody in the game, everybody got to touch the ball and score. We got to look at some different lineups and play a lot of different defenses. It was a good first (game) at home."
 
Williams led all scorers, and five Lady Bears in double figures, with 20 points. Jade Myles scored 14 points, while McGee had 12 and Geonna Marshall netted 11. Daisy Wansley was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Lady Bears hit 19 of 23 free throws.
 
Devena Smith led the Lady Rockets (0-4) with 17 points. She and her teammates combined to make 12 of 20 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears take a few days off before returning to the court on November 14 when they host the Lady Dolphins of Delgado Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
