Lady Bears fall at Meridian

Host East Central today in make up game

The Southwest soccer teams came home empty-handed from Meridian Monday night as they Lady Bears fell 6-2 in the opener and the Bears tied the nightcap 0-0 in double overtime.

The Lady Bears now stand at 3-6 on the season while the Bears are 1-6-2.

Meridian took an early 1-0 lead in the ladies game on Kari Zendajas’ goal at 3:00. Goals by Kristen Morris (15:00) and Pam Gean (23:00) then put the hosts up 3-0.

But, the Lady Bears were not quite ready to give up as they drew to within 3-2 at the half. Casey Lyle put Southwest on the board first at 38:00, with an assist from Jana Cooper. Jessica St. Pierre then made it a one-goal game with her eighth score of the year off an assist from Haley Dismuke at 43:00.

The second half, however, proved to be all Meridian as the Lady Eagles scored three times to take the win. Southwest goalie Erin Sumrall had 12 saves in the game.

Southwest is back on the field today as they host East Central in games that were postponed in August due to Hurricane Isaac. Game times are 2:00 for the ladies and 4:00 for the men.
