Bears unable to get past Northwest on the road

Despite several positives in Wednesday's road match at Northwest, the Bears didn't have enough to get past the Rangers as they fell 11-25, 14-25, 21-25.

The Bears (5-17, 2-9 MACCC) had trouble getting into rhythm in the beginning stages of the first set as the Rangers went on a couple of early runs. Southwest continued to fight and got kills from Abby Greenlee and Haley Eckert along with an ace from Hattie Tynes but it wasn't enough as Northwest took the first set.

Southwest was much more competitive in the second set as a pair of kills from Reagan Robinson and one from AnnaLeigh Robbins complemented an ace from Eckert as the Bears kept pace with the Rangers. In the latter half of the set the Bears continued to stick with the Rangers before a run in the end gave the hosts the second set.

Once again, the third set started off in similar fashion to the second. The Bears stayed very competitive but couldn't get the consistency they needed. A block from Berta Soules and a kill from Eckert helped Southwest along but Northwest unfortunately stayed one step ahead as the Rangers closed out the set to claim the match.

The Bears return home to host Meridian Monday at 6 p.m.
