Lady Bear Volleyball takes down Gulf Coast in home opener

Southwest Volleyball picked up a 3-1 victory over Gulf Coast in the first home game of the season on Friday, August 28th.

The Lady Bears came out hot by jumping out to an 8-2 lead over the Bulldogs in the first set.

Southwest stayed in control and would go on to win set one 25-19.

Gulf Coast answered back by taking set two 25-14 over the Lady Bears.

In a tight third set, the Lady Bears came from behind with Gulf Coast on Set Point to force overtime.

Southwest came out on top winning the third set 28-26 and taking a 2-1 set lead over the Bulldogs.

The fourth set was back and forth with each team staying within 1 point of the other the whole way.

Gulf Coast reached set point first again in the fourth set, but the Lady Bears answered back to tie it and once again force overtime.

In extra points, Southwest took control and close out Gulf Coast in another 28-26 win in the fourth and final set to take the series 3-1.

The Lady Bears picked up their first win of the season in their first home game of the season after starting 0-3 on the road.

Addie Raye Pennington had 46 assists for Southwest against Gulf Coast.

Lillian Daviss led the team with 17 kills. Ina Smith and Tierra Martin each had 11 kills.

Caroline East led the team with 28 digs.

The Lady Bears (1-3) are back at home on Monday, August 31st taking on Pearl River.
