Lady Bears come up short against host Coahoma

The Lady Bears entered Tuesday's game at Coahoma hoping to get back on track following Thursday's tough loss to Pearl River.

But a slow start hurt Southwest and the Lady Bears couldn't fully recover, falling 67-60 to the Lady Tigers.

Early on, the Lady Bears (16-6, 7-2 MACCC) showed struggles on both ends of the floor. In the first quarter, the offense posted 12 points led by four each from Bethany Graves and Michaela Payton. But the defense had trouble slowing down the balanced Coahoma attack as Southwest trailed 23-12 after the first 10:00 of play.

Another 12-point quarter in the second kept the Lady Bears pushing forward but once again the Lady Tiger attack proved to be a bit too much. Southwest found itself down 48-24 at the half.

Defensively, the Lady Bears had their best quarter of the night in the third, limiting the Coahoma attack to just six points while the offense posted 14.

And even though Southwest recorded its highest point total in the fourth with 20 points, it wasn't enough as the Lady Tigers held on for the win.

Payton led the Lady Bears with 12 points while Morgan Sullivan had 11.

Southwest returns home Thursday to play host to the East Central Lady Warriors at 5:30 p.m.
