Box Score The Lady Bears entered Friday's road contest at No. 3 Northwest looking to not only bounce back from Tuesday's tough loss to East Central but also notch their first conference win just three games into MACCC play.
But the Lady Rangers had other ideas, being a thorn in the sides of the Lady Bears all afternoon as Southwest fell 5-0.
"Our biggest thing is just conceding goals that are unearned," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "They are very deep on their bench so they had a lot of subs and a lot of fresh legs. We struggled a little bit to keep up with their speed of play."
The Lady Bears (2-6, 0-3) came out trying to set the tone, but the Lady Rangers struck first with a goal in the 11
th minute putting Southwest down 1-0.
The deficit unfortunately grew in the 43
rd minute with an unassisted goal by Northwest.
Trailing 2-0 in entering the second half, the Lady Bears pressed on trying to get into rhythm. But Northwest added a third goal 22:00 into the second half before scoring their final two in the 81
st and 88
th minutes, respectively.
Southwest returns to action Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they make the drive to Ridgeland to face No. 2 Holmes.
