Hoping to finish the road portion of the regular season on a high note, the Lady Bears traveled up to Decatur anxious to take a pair from the East Central. But the host Lady Warriors prevented that as the Lady Bears fell 6-0 in Game 1 and 6-2 in Game 2.
In the opener, the Lady Bears (17-27, 7-19 MACCC) had trouble getting their bats going. Lilli Robertson led the offense with two hits.
The slow start hut Southwest as East Central jumped ahead 3-0 in its half of the first inning following a three-run home run.
Anne Claire Sistrunk produced the Lady Bears' second hit of the game in the second inning, but unfortunately she was stranded, keeping Southwest off of the scoreboard.
The 3-0 deficit for Southwest stayed true until the fifth when East Central rallied with three additional runs to push its lead to the eventual final.
Mia Pumila and Emme Wallace both logged time in the circle for the Lady Bears.
In Game 2, Madi Smith got the nod for the Lady Bears. She got some help from her offense in the second as Southwest struck first. Kacey Stampley, Addie Bagwell and Morgan Gras all singled with the latter's bringing Stampley home giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 advantage.
Smith went back to work, retiring the side in order in the second and three of four batters in the third before her offense provided additional insurance in the fourth. Smith helped her own cause leading off the inning with a single before touching home three at bats later when Shaylee Ingram hit a single of her own.
However, in the fourth, the Lady Bears lost their 2-0 lead when the Lady Warriors scored two of their own to tie the game. In the sixth, East Central rallied to pull away plating four runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Southwest tried to respond in the seventh, getting one runner on base but the next two batters were retired sealing the win for the hosts.
Smith, Lana Dalton, Angelle Delcambre and Wallace all pitched in Game Two. Stampley led the Lady Bear offense with two hits.
The Lady Bears close out the regular season Sunday hosting Hinds at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in a makeup game.
