Alexis Dejean's 3 homerun day leads to Lady Bear win over East Central

Southwest Mississippi Softball hosted East Central on Wednesday, April 15th in a doubleheader that saw Southwest lose game one 5-6 and win game two 8-6.

Game one was a heartbreaking loss in extra innings for the Lady Bears.

Allie Ladnier started on the mound for Southwest in game one.

Ladnier pitched 7.1 innings with over 150 pitches with 2 strikeouts and only 6 runs allowed.

Mary Claire Salley came in to finish the game and had 1 strikeout with no hits or runs allowed.

The Lady Bears put up 1 run in the bottom of the first on an Alexis Dejean double then went scoreless until the seventh inning.

Down 5-1, the Ladies were down to one final inning.

Bailey McLin singled to get it started for Southwest followed by a Corin Talbot homerun to left field to move the score to 5-3.

Allie Ladnier singled next to get on base and put the tying run in the batter's box.

With the chance to tie the game, Alexis Dejean did just that with a homer to center field to put the Lady Bears back in it with a 5-5 scoreline.

Southwest could not end it in regulation and would go on to lose 6-5 to East Central in eight innings.

Alexis Dejean led the team with 3 hits, including a homerun and a double. Bailey McLin was right behind her with 2 hits. Corin Talbot (HR), Allie Ladnier, Kate Clements, and Jana Phillips each had 1 hit as well.

Jana Phillips stole a base in game one.

Ballard Kraft started on the mound for Southwest in game two.

Kraft pitched 4.2 innings and picked up the win for Southwest.

Mary Claire Salley came in for relief before Allie Ladnier entered game two after 150 pitches in game one.

Ladnier pitched the final 2.0 innings striking out 4 out of 8 batters she faced with only one hit allowed. Ladnier also picked up the save for Southwest.

Alexis Dejean set the tone early for the Lady Bears with a first inning 2 run homerun to give Southwest a 2-0 lead.

After 2 runs from East Central to tie it, Bailey McLin hit a sacrifice fly to score Jana Phillips and retake a 3-2 lead.

East Central tied the game again in the third, but Alexis Dejean hit another 2-run homerun, her third of the day, to take back a 5-3 lead.

Madalyn Ashford doubled in the same inning to push the Lady Bear lead to 6-3.

The final 2 Southwest runs scored in the bottom of the fifth on a Corin Talbot triple that moved the score to 8-5 in favor of the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears would only allow one more run and go on to win 8-6 over East Central in game two.

Kate Clements led the team with 4 hits in 4 at bats. Alexis Dejean had 2 hits. Madalyn Ashford, Corin Talbot, and Lauryn Roebuck each had 1 hit.

Alexis Dejean led with 4 RBIs, half of the Lady Bear runs. Corin Talbot had 2 RBIs while Bailey McLin and Madalyn Ashford each had 1.

Alexis Dejean had 2 homeruns. Corin Talbot had a triple. Kate Clements and Madalyn Ashford each had a double.

Lauryn Roebuck (x2), Bailey McLin, Jana Phillips, and Kate Clements all stole bases in game two.

The Lady Bears (25-13, 12-10*conference) travel to Clarksdale to play Coahoma on Friday, April 17th.
