Lady Bears fall to Gulf Coast

Southwest Mississippi Softball traveled to Perkinston on Tuesday, April 7th to play Mississippi Gulf Coast in a doubleheader that saw the Lady Bears lose 3-6 and 6-7.

Allie Ladnier pitched all of game one for the Lady Bears.

In 6.0 innings, Ladnier had 1 strikeout with 6 runs allowed.

Game one started out close being tied 3-3 after five innings.

The three Southwest runs came on an Allie Ladnier double, a Madalyn Ashford single, and a Bailey McLin single.

Gulf Coast put up a big 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lady Bears were unable to answer back in the seventh resulting in a 3-6 loss for Southwest.

Bailey McLin led the team with 2 hits. Madalyn Ashford, Allie Ladnier, Alexis Dejean, and Jana Phillips each had 1 hit.

Allie Ladnier and Bailey McLin each had a double.

Bailey McLin, Madalyn Ashford, and Allie Ladnier all had 1 RBI.

Jana Phillips and Madalyn Ashford both stole a base in game one.

In game two, Mary Claire Salley started on the mound and picked up the loss for Southwest.

Salley pitched 1.2 innings before Tye Boone took over.

Boone pitched 4.1 innings with 3 runs allowed.

The Lady Bears soon found themselves down 5-0 after three innings.

In the top of the fifth, Southwest finally broke into the scoring column with 2 runs on back to back solo homeruns from Kate Clements and Tristan Allen to put the score at 5-2.

Gulf Coast answered back with 2 runs of their own to push the lead to 7-2.

The Lady Bears went into the seventh down 5 with a chance to rally back.

Allie Ladnier opened up the seventh with a single followed quickly by an Alexis Dejean homerun to move the score to 4-7 cutting the lead down to 3.

Next, Kate Clements walked before a Tristan Allen homerun brought the lead within 1 as the homerun leader for the Lady Bears pushed the score to 6-7 in the top of the seventh.

Three straight outs would end the hopes of the Lady Bears as they would go on to lose 6-7 to Gulf Coast.

Tristan Allen led the team in game two with 2 hits both being homeruns. With those 2 homeruns, Allen sits at 16 on the season continuing to set the new Southwest single season homerun record.

Kate Clements, Allie Ladnier, Alexis Dejean, and Jana Phillips had 1 hit each.

Alexis Dejean and Kate Clements each had a homerun as well.

Tristan Allen led the team with 3 RBIs followed by Alexis Dejean with 2 RBIs. Kate Clements had 1 RBI.

The Lady Bears (23-11, 10-8*conference) will host Pearl River on Thursday, April 9th and look to end a five-game losing streak.
