Lady Bears get second-consecutive win, top East Mississippi on the road

Coming off of a thrilling 7-0 home win Saturday against Hinds, the Lady Bears kept rolling Friday in Scooba, topping East Mississippi in record-setting fashion, 9-0.

"We are very happy to get the win (and) we broke some records," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "All-in-all, I'm very happy to get the win and I'm excited for our momentum going into these last three games in the season."

After scoring three goals Saturday against the Lady Eagles, Martin set a new school record with four against the Lady Lions. Also shining on the pitch for the Lady Bears was Juliette Charriez Rivera who recorded three goals. Their efforts marked just the second double hat trick in team history. Friday's nine Southwest goals also tied the record for most in a match in team history.

The Lady Bears (4-9, 2-6 MACCC) grabbed the early advantage just 2:01 in to the match when Martin notched her first goal on an assist from Aoife Saunders. She followed that up with another about 11:00 later this time on an assist from Hannah Case.

Not even a minute later, Charriez Rivera got into the act with her first as Saunders posted her second assist, making it a 3-0 advantage for the visitors.

Mary Claire McCurley made her presence known a short time later assisting on Charriez Rivera's second goal giving the Lady Bear a 4-0 advantage at the half.

Martin and McCurley provided the first two goals of the second half for Southwest scoring at the 54:36 and 70:15 marks, respectively.

The hits kept on coming for the Lady Bears as Martin tallied her fourth and Charriez Rivera her third on assists from Holly-Bo Dunning and Rose Coats, respectively. Saunders closed out the scoring late in the contest, getting an assist from Amari Simmons.

In just her second start in goal, Kiera Schwartz got her second-consecutive clean sheet.

The Lady Bears return to action on Tuesday with a road match at Meridian at 5 p.m.
