Lady Bears lose to visiting Jones

The Lady Bears had 2nd-ranked Jones on the ropes in the 3rd quarter, but were unable to sustain their momentum as they fell to the visitors from Ellisville, 58-44, Thursday night.
 
Down 12-6 midway through the opening quarter, the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Bobcats 9-0 to take a 15-12 lead on an Analya White three pointer with 2:01 on the clock. They would take a 15-14 lead into the 2nd quarter.
 
The teams were tied three times in the 2nd quarter before a pair of Shylia McGee free throws put the Lady Bears on top 19-18 with 5:07 on the clock. They would go on to lead 25-21 at intermission.
 
The Lady Bears seemed to have things well in hand to start the 3rd quarter as a Sydni Tangle trey started a 12-2 run by the Lady Bears that extended their lead to 37-23 with 5:21 on the clock.
 
That, however, is when the tide began to turn in favor of the Lady Bobcats (10-0). A 12-0 run to end the quarter left the teams tied at 37-37 with one quarter still to play.
 
The ball just would not bounce the way of the Lady Bears (5-3) in the final quarter as they were outscored 21-7 as the Lady Bobcats recorded the win.
"I am extremely proud of our effort," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "(However) we are so disgusted with the outcome. We had the game where it needed to be for us to pull it off, but we had trouble scoring late and we could not stop them (Jones) defensively."
 
McGee led the Lady Bears' offense with 16 points. She and her teammates went 7-10 at the free throw line.
 
Jones' JaKayla Johnson led all scorers with 23 points. She and her teammates combined to go 3-8 at the free throw line.
 
The Lady Bears remain at home for their next contest as they host Mississippi Gulf Coast on March 8 at 6:00.
