Etienne's 22 points lifts Lady Bears over host East Central

After a low-scoring first half, the Lady Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter Wednesday night in Decatur as they defeated the host East Central Lady Warriors, 70-51, in MACCC South Division action to sweep the season series.
 
Points were somewhat hard to come by for both teams in the first half. The Lady Bears (7-3, 7-3) led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and were on top 27-20 at intermission.
 
The teams traded baskets in the third quarter with the Lady Bears outscoring East Central (1-7, 1-7) 16-15 to take a 43-35 advantage into the final quarter
 
Mikayla Etienne scored 16 of her game-high 22 points for the Lady Bears in the fourth quarter as they pulled away to record the 19-point win.
 
"We are very proud of our focus and grit tonight," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "The final score was no sign of how tough it was tonight. They (East Central) are a well-coached team. Jerryonne Owens was really good again and Shylia McGee got some big offensive boards."
 
In addition to Etienne, McGee also scored in double figures as she finished with 15.
 
The Lady Bears went 8-12 at the free throw line.
 
Sylvia Jones scored 17 points to lead East Central. She and her teammates 12 of 14 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears return to action on March 13 when they travel to Poplarville to face Pearl River. Tipoff of the South Division matchup is set for 2:00.
