Lady Bears fall at 7th-ranked Jones

The Lady Bears suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night in Ellisville as they fell to the 7th-ranked Jones Lady Bobcats, 81-59.
 
The Lady Bears stayed with their hosts in the early going. A pair of Sydni Tangle free throws put them on top 8-7 with 4:38 on the first-quarter clock and a Jerryonne Owens layup with 3:25 on the clock gave them their largest lead of the night, 13-10.
 
Jones (4-0) then came back to take a 17-15 lead before the teams ended the quarter tied at 19-19.
 
A Mikayla Etienne layup with 8:11 left in the second quarter gave the Lady Bears a 27-26 advantage. After Jones recaptured the lead, a Jade Myles bucket put the Lady Bears back on top 29-28 with 7:32 left in the half.
 
A 13-2 run then gave Jones a 41-31 lead with 3:50 on the clock and, leading 50-38 at the end of the half, they would maintain control of the game the rest of the night.
 
After Jones took a 56-40 lead, Analya White made a pair of free throws for the Lady Bears (1-1) to make the score 56-42 with 3:39 left in the third quarter.
 
However, Jones would go on to lead 66-46 at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same as Jones went on to pick up the 22-point victory.
 
Etienne led the Lady Bears' offense with 15 points in the game. Tangle netted 13 points while White scored 10.
 
The Lady Bears made 14 of 18 free throws.
 
Lekera Hughes scored 18 points for Jones to lead all scorers. She and her teammates combined to go 8-13 at the free throw line.
 
The Lady Bears stay on the road for their next contest, visiting the Lady Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston on February 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00.
