The Lady Bears picked up their fourth straight win, and fifth in the last six, with an 81-68 MACJC South Division victory over the visiting Lady Eagles of Meridian Monday night.

With the win, the Lady Bears moved to 14-4 on the season and 7-2 in the South. Meridian dropped to 6-12, 3-6.

The game was nip and tuck throughout the first quarter with six ties and four lead changes. The Lady Bears took their largest lead, 7-3, on a Jolie Williams trey with 8:39 on the clock while Meridian led by as many as three points. Meridian took a 19-16 lead into the second quarter.

A Sydni Tangle trey to open the second quarter sent the Lady Bears on a 10-2 run that left them on top 26-21 with 4:59 before halftime. Meridian then outscored the Lady Bears 14-8 the rest of the quarter to take a 35-34 lead into the locker room at intermission.

With the Lady Bears trailing 39-36 in the third quarter, a Taylor Ben three pointer started a 12-4 run that left the home team on top 46-39.

After Meridian pulled to within 52-46, a Shylia McGee bucket jumpstarted a 14-1 run by the Lady Bears to close out the quarter that left them with a 66-47 advantage with one quarter remaining.

A layup from McGee with 9:17 left in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Bears their largest lead of the night, 68-47. They would not be threatened the rest of the way.

"I'm very proud of our effort to defend some tough actions tonight from Meridian," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "Jolie had a big first half. Sydni and Taylor found the mark in the second half (and) Shylia made some great decisions at the point tonight. Also, Jade Myles took some key charges tonight."

Williams led the Lady Bears, and all scorers, with 21 points in the game. Tangle tallied 17 points while Ben scored 14 and McGee picked up 10. The Lady Bears were 18 of 24 at the free throw line.

Berniya Hardin topped Meridian's offense with 15 points. She and her teammates were 5-14 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears remain at home for their next game as they host Mississippi Gulf Coast on February 6 in a 5:30 South Division matchup.
