Lady Bears fall at 11th-ranked Jones

The Lady Bears gave 11th-ranked Jones fits for the first three quarters before the host Lady Bobcats pulled away in the fourth quarter for an 86-56 win in their MACJC South Division matchup.
 
Jones took an early 7-0 lead in the opening quarter before the Lady Bears got on the board with a Taylor Ben three pointer. Jones would go on to score 14 of the next 22 points in the quarter to lead 22-11 at the end of the first 10:00 of play.
 
The Lady Bears (10-4, 3-2) trailed 24-12 early in the second quarter before a trio of free throws from D'Mya Wilson helped cut the Lady Bears' deficit to 26-20 with 6:21 on the clock.
 
After Jones stretched their lead back to 33-20, the Lady Bears went on a 9-1 spurt and pulled to within 34-29 on another Ben trey with 2:32 left in the h half.
 
A 9-1 run by Jones to end the quarter then gave the hosts a 43-30 lead at the end of the half.
 
The Lady Bears came out firing on all cylinders to open the half, outscoring Jones 11-1 and pulling to within 44-41 on a Jolie William bucket with 5:49 on the clock.
 
Jones (11-2, 5-0) then began pulling away, closing out the quarter on a 15-5 run to take a 59-46 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
The final quarter belonged to the home team as Jones outscored the Lady Bears 27-10 to get the victory.
 
"We had some moments," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris, "but, we did not take advantage of our opportunities at the free throw line. It was a three-point game early in the second half and our poor choices offensively led to easy baskets for them in transition."
 
Ben topped the Lady Bears offense with 11 points while Wilson was also in double figures with 10 points. The Lady Bears went 9-18 at the free throw line.
 
Jatyjia Jones and Keyara Jones both scored 13 points for Jones to lead all scorers. They and their teammates were 14-18 at the free throw line.
 
The Bears look to get back into the win column Thursday night at 5:30 when they host Pearl River.
