Host Gulf Coast defeats Lady Bears

The road proved to be very unkind to the Lady Bears Thursday night as they fell to the host Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs, 64-40, in MACJC South Division action.

The Lady Bears trailed 14-3 at the end of the first quarter and found themselves down 31-10 when the second quarter came to a close.

Amari Pittman and Tootie Carter both hit a three pointer as the Lady Bears scored 11 points in the third quarter. However, Gulf Coast scored 12 points to retain the lead, 43-21.

Jamaya Galloway scored eight of her game-high 11 points in the fourth quarter for the Lady Bears (8-11, 3-7). But, Gulf Coast maintained their sizeable lead throughout on the way to the win.

The Lady Bears went 8-15 at the free throw line.

Kayla Simmons and Shelli Thigpen both scored 10 points to top the Gulf Coast (10-7, 6-4) offense. The home team hit 13 of 18 free throws.

The Lady Bears return home for their next game as they host Co-Lin on February 11 in South Division play. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
