Lady Bears have their way with Delgado

Lady Bears vs. Delgado-final

Women's Basketball | 11/14/2019 7:57:00 PM

The Lady Bears had their way with the visiting Delgado Lady Dolphins Thursday night, winning 91-56.

The first of seven three pointers from Jolie Williams and a Taylor Ben layup helped the Lady Bears take an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter.

D'Mya Wilson's jumper with 2:58 on the clock gave them their largest lead of the first quarter and they went on to take a 21-10 advantage into the second quarter.

The Lady Bears (3-1) slowly extended their lead in the second 10:00 of play with a pair of Sydni Tangle free throws with only 0:14 on the clock giving them their biggest lead of the half, 41-21. They would take that lead into intermission.

A momentary lull in scoring by the Lady Bears in the third quarter allowed Delgado (1-3) pull to within 41-30 with 6:32 on the clock. But, the Lady Bears regained their momentum and went on to take a 63-41 lead at the end of the third quarter after a bucket from Alexus Marsh.

Back-to-back baskets from Shylia McGee put the Lady Bears on top 79-46 with 4:30 on the clock. They then took their largest lead of the night, 82-47, on Williams' final trey of the night with 4:06 remaining. They went on to win by the same 35-point margin.

"We played well, obviously, offensively," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "We had a lot of people make shots, we shared the ball. Defensively, we've got to get a little bit better. Some of our zone stuff was really good, but we've got to get better at our base defenses and hopefully we'll start to work on that tomorrow."

Williams led the Lady Bears' offense with 25 points, including 7-12 from beyond the three-point arc. McGee and Tangle both scored 14 points while Wilson netted 10.

The Lady Bears hit 14 of 26 free throws.

DanNecia Nora scored 27 points for Delgado to lead all scorers. She and her teammates went 11-17 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears remain at home for their next contest as they host Baton Rouge Community College on November 18, at 5:30, on the opening night of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic.
