Despite getting 20 hits, Bears drop two at Coastal Alabama

Despite picking up 20 hits on the day, the Bears found themselves on the wrong side of an 11-5, 9-5 doubleheader sweep by the home standing Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs Friday evening in Bay Minette.

The Bears trailed 6-0 before getting on the board in the top of the 5th in game one.
Payton Yawn reached on an error to lead off the frame then moved to second on a Quartez Brown single (Brown later added a double). After both moved up a base on a double steal, a balk sent Yawn across the plate and T Tez Cole's double to left field scored Brown to make the score 6-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, four more runs crossed the plate for the Sun Chiefs (9-6) to make the score 10-2.

Michael Buck led off the Bears' half of the sixth with his second hit of the game followed by a Tyler White single. Later in the frame, a fielder's choice allowed Buck to score while White reached the plate on a sacrifice fly to make the score 10-4. The Sun Chiefs answered in the bottom of the sixth with their final run of the game to increase their lead to 11-4.

With two outs in the Bears' final at bat, White launched an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence for a solo homer, his third hit of the game, to score the final run of the game.

Brendon Baker took the loss on the mound for the Bears. He surrendered six runs, five earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out one.

The Bears (1-5) fell behind 3-0 in the nightcap before picking up their first runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Cole walked and
Kyle Singleton doubled to right. Isaiah Davis then sent both racing home with a line-drive hit up the middle that trimmed the Bears' deficit to 3-2.

Three additional runs crossed the plate for the Sun Chiefs in the bottom of the fourth followed by two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to push their lead to 9-2.

The final runs of the night came in the Bears' half of the seventh. Buck singled with one out and later scored on an error. Following this, Yawn's second base knock of the game sent pinch-runner
Aaron Ragsdale home from third base. Two batters later, a Brown ground out allowed Zach Dearman, on base via a single, to score.

Starter Ethan Campo took the loss for the Bears, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks in just over an inning of work. He struck out one batter.

The Bears return to the diamond Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when they host the Hinds Eagles in a non-conference doubleheader.
