Lady Bears win big over BRCC

The Lady Bears closed out the annual Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic with ease Tuesday night as they defeated Baton Rouge Community College 60-41.
 
Capped by an old-fashioned three-point play by Amari Pittman, the Lady Bears (2-2) opened the game with a 9-0 lead and were never challenged. A free throw from Victorianna Nelson left the Lady Bears with an 18-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter, but the Lady Bears outscored BRCC 7-4. A Tootie Carter bucket with 1:21 on the clock left the Lady Bears with a 25-6 lead at intermission.
 
A three-point shot from Terralyn Ulmer, with 1:33 left in the third quarter, gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead of the night, 46-18 which they took into the final 10:00 of play.
 
BRCC was able to come no closer than 18 points in the fourth quarter as they Lady Bears picked up the big win.
 
"We are growing up every time out," said Lady Bears head man Brent Harris. "Our defensive effort was really good in the first half. Tootie Rankin and Maddi (Gatte) were especially good on defense."

Carter led the Lady Bears with 14 points while Pittman was also in double figures with 10 points. Pittman led on the boards with nine rebounds.
 
The Lady Bears made 20 of 26 free throws.
 
BRCC's Kayla Watson led all scorers with 19 points. She and her teammates went 11-18 at the free throw line.
 
After taking time off for Thanksgiving, the Lady Bears will return to the court on November 26 when they travel to LSU-Eunice to face the Lady Bengals. Tipoff is set for 6:00.
