Lady Bears move to 5-0 with win at Coahoma

The Lady Bears ran their record to 5-0 Monday night with a tough 66-59 road win over the Coahoma Lady Tigers in Clarksdale.

The Lady Bears fell behind early before taking a 6-5 lead on a
Keturah Bingham jumper with 7:14 left in the initial quarter. Coahoma then tied the game at 11-11 before the Lady Bears scored seven of the last nine points of the quarter to take an 18-13 lead at the end of the first 10:00 of play.

Scoring the first five points of the second quarter, the Lady Bears took their biggest lead of the half, 23-13, on an
Amari Pittman trey with 8:48 on the clock. A 9-0 scoring spurt brought Coahoma to within a point, 23-22, with 5:34 before the half. The Lady Bears then scored 14 of the final 21 points of the half with a pair of Bingham buckets giving them a 37-29 advantage at intermission.

Coahoma (2-6) scored the first seven points of the second half to pull to within a point, 37-36, with 8:23 left in the third quarter. The Lady Bears then scored six of the next eight points and went up 43-38 on a
Rachel Thompson layup with 5:43 on the clock. A 12-2 run resulted in a 50-45 lead by Coahoma late in the quarter. Bingham nailed a three-pointer with 0:07 on the clock left the Lady Bears down 50-48 with one quarter remaining.

A
Nia Henderson jumper with 7:34 left in the game capped a 7-0 run by the Lady Bears to open the fourth quarter and put the Lady Bears on top 55-50. Outscoring the Lady Bears 7-2, Coahoma then tied the game at 57-57 with 3:19 to go. The Lady Bears then scored nine of the game's final 11 points to escape Clarksdale with the narrow win.

Bingham had a double-double, with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Henderson scored 10 points.
Jamaya Galloway contributed to the win with five assists. The Lady Bears hit 10 of 14 free throws.

Coahoma's Nikerria Harris led all scorers with 23 points. She and her teammates hit 16 of 22 free throws.

The Lady Bears return to the home court for their next contest as they host the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
