Overcoming an always-tough opponent and a 40 minute delay caused by a tornado warning, the Lady Bears bounced back from Tuesday's loss to notch a huge 84-78 overtime win against host Jones County Thursday night.

The win moved the Lady Bears to 13-2 overall and, at 5-1, into a three-way tie with Jones County and East Central for first place in the MACJC South.

A pair of
Teshia Jones three pointers helped the Lady Bears take a 12-10 lead with 4:52 left in the first quarter. Ahead 16-10 with 3:47 on the clock, the Lady Bears saw the Lady Bobcats go on a 10-0 run to take a 22-16 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Lady Bobcats (12-3, 5-1) looked ready to blow the game wide open in the second quarter, using a 12-2 run to take a 38-25 lead with 3:31 to play before the break. But,
Ke' Asia Gray and Alissa Adam combined to score eight points for the Lady Bears as they dropped their deficit to 41-33 at the end of the half.

Gabriella Cortez nailed a three-pointer early in the third quarter to move the Lady Bears back to within four points, 41-37, with 8:15 on the clock. Jones then hit a three-pointer with 3:42 remaining in the quarter to give the Lady Bears their first lead since early in the contest, 50-48.

Leading 52-49 with 2:39 on the clock, the Lady Bears saw their hosts go on another 10-0 run and regain the lead, 59-52, at the end of the quarter.

Down 67-60 with 3:29 on the clock, the Lady Bears scored eight of the game's next 10 points and pulled to within a point, 69-68, on Adam's jumper with 1:24 left. It was at this point the tornado warning forced officials to stop the game and send the teams and fans to safe cover.

When play resumed, Snowden laid the ball in the goal to put the Lady Bears on top 70-69 with 0:57 remaining. Both teams then had a chance to pick up the win in regulation. "Every starter, everybody who played had a big moment," said Lady Bears' head coach Brent Harris. "Alissa was really great at the point; Lillie made some huge free throws for us; Chelsea James came in defensively and made some big plays; Ke' Asia offensively really gave us a spark early in the first half."

"It's a huge character win," Harris continued. "I'm very proud of (us) overcoming a lot of different situations and just kind of trusting each other to get the victory."
