Jones County too much for Lady Bears

The road was not kind to the Southwest Lady Bears Monday night as a trip to Ellisville ended with an 80-60 defeat at the hands of home standing Jones County.
 
The Lady Bears fell behind early, 4-0, before making it 4-2 with a basket from Gabriella Cortez (Natchitoches, LA) with 16:17 left in the opening half. But, a 24-10 Jones County run gave the hosts a 26-12 lead with 7:17 on the clock.
 
Teshia Jones (Stringer) and Talisa Sherman (Richland) then combined to score eight of the eight of the game's next 12 points and bring the Lady Bears (10-12, 6-7) back to within eight points, 30-22, with 3:40 before the break. That would be as close as the Lady Bears could get the rest of the night as a 10-2 run to end the half gave Jones County a 40-24 lead at intermission.
 
The second half was, unfortunately, all Jones County (15-6, 9-4) as they extended their lead to as many as 23 points. The Lady Bears closed the gap to 13 points on two occasions, but could get no closer as Jones County went on to the 20-point win.
 
Cortez topped the Lady Bears' offense with 15 points in the game. Jones and Sherman were also in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Sherman also had seven assists. The Lady Bears made 17 of 22 free throws.
 
Taylor Baudion's 21 points led Jones County. The hosts made 16 of 27 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears close out the regular season Thursday with a 5:30 home matchup against East Central.
