BOX SCORE

Rebounding from Monday night's setback, the Southwest Lady Bears returned to the win column Tuesday night with a 68-53 win over the Southern-Shreveport Lady Jaguars on the final night of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic.

The Lady Bears (4-1) took control of the game early. Back-to-back three pointers from
Teshia Jones put them on top 8-3 early in the first quarter. Jones then added a pair of layups to make the score 15-3 with 5:34 left in the quarter and the Lady Bears went on to 23-15 advantage at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same.
Ke' Asia Gray's layup with 3:02 on the clock gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead of the half, 37-18. They then took a 37-24 lead into the locker room at intermission.

In the third quarter, the Lady Jaguars (2-5) were still unable to mount a serious challenge to the Lady Bears as they could get no closer than 13 points, 45-32, with under 3:40 on the clock. A pair of
Gabriella Cortez free throws had the Lady Bears on top 52-34 late and they held a 52-37 lead going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was again all Lady Bears.
Shalisa Hawthorne's basket with 5:01 left in the game gave the home team their biggest lead of the night, 64-44, and they went on to record the 15-point win.

"It was a very good response after (Monday) night," said Lady Bears' head coach Brent Harris. "We were proud of our efforts defensively. Gabby (Cortez) and Teshia got us going offensively (and)
Alissa Adam we thought had her best night distributing the basketball."

Cortez topped the Lady Bears with 21 points on 7-14 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line. Jones was also in double figures with 13 points. Adam recorded 10 assists. The Lady Bears made 11 of 18 free throws.

Janey Jones and Jada Taylor both scored 11 points to pace the Lady Jaguars. The visitors were good on 8 of 16 free throws.

The Lady Bears return to the court Saturday, and make their first road trip of the season, with a 2:00 contest against Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.
