Bear Baseball recognizes Sophomores

Southwest Mississippi Baseball hosted Baton Rouge Community College on Monday, March 23rd for Southwest Baseball's Sophomore Night.

Southwest recognized the following Sophomores:

Following Sophomore Night, Southwest faced off against Baton Rouge in what would be a 12-16 Southwest loss in extra innings.

Camp Segrest started on the mound for Southwest, making his first appearance of the season.

Segrest pitched 2.0 innings with 1 strikeout putting down six straight batters.

Ian Edwards, Nathan Carter, Konnor Cazenave, Wyatt Garrett, Will McLeod, Tate Miller, Brian Hankinson, and Luke Simmons all pitched 1.0 innings each.

Luke Simmons picked up the loss for Southwest.

In a back and forth offensive battle, each team seemed to get a hit when they needed one.

With the game tied 10-10 in the top of the ninth, Baton Rouge scored 2 runs to take the lead, but Southwest answered right back with 2 of their own to send it to extra innings.

Baton Rouge put up 4 runs in the top of the tenth inning to go up 16-12 and would go on to win after holding Southwest scoreless in the bottom.

Walker Wixon led the team with 3 hits. JD Hidalgo, Drew Swan, and Hayes Loper each had 2 hits. Luke Simmons, Tanner Moore, and Tristain Haynes all had 1 hit.

Drew Swan, Hayes Loper, Luke Simmons, Tristain Haynes, and Tanner Moore all had a double in the contest.

Cam Bolden, JD Hidalgo, and Luke Simmons all stole a base.

Walker Wixon and Hayes Loper both had 3 RBIs. Tristain Haynes and JD Hidalgo both had 2 while Tanner Moore had 1.

The Bears (20-12, 4-4*conference) travel to Ellisville to play Jones in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25th.
