| By:
The Bears started conference play in Utica on January 15th as they took down Hinds 82-72 for a confident win in the road opener.

The first half started out as a back and forth contest with each team going score for score. Coming down to the buzzer, the half time score was 36-35 with Hinds in the lead.

The Bears opened up the second half with a quick score to take the lead in what would continue to be a back and forth contest.

Southwest and Hinds would take turns stealing the lead all the way until about 7:00 left on the clock when the Bears would finally start to pull away.

Maintaining a roughly ten point lead for the remainder of the game, the Bears would take down the Hinds Bulldogs 82-72 to start off 1-0 in the conference.

Courterius Scott spearheaded the scoring for the Bears putting up a massive 35 points including 5 three-pointers and 10 free throws made on 14 attempts.

Coach Corey Schmidt had this to say about Courterius, "Court is just a special player, I'm glad he is on our side… he just made so many big plays when they had a little momentum. Made tough shots. Just a tough dude that is a winner."

Leano Rolle and Cy Merrett also had big games with 18 and 17 points to help bring home the win for Southwest.

Coach Schmidt also said, "it's never easy to win conference games on the road. Proud of the guys' toughness and mindset to get it done tonight. Really executed the game plan well and had great focus throughout."

The Bears (7-10)(1-0) continue conference play at home on January 20th taking on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
