Southwest Mississippi Men's Basketball traveled to Fulton on Tuesday, March 10th to play Jones College in the semifinal round of the Region 23 Playoffs in a 93-77 Jones win.

Jones started the game off hot going on a 9-0 run holding the Bears scoreless for the first 4:10 of play.

An Andre Ngomabie bucket paired with a Courterius Scott three pointer kickstarted the Southwest offense.

Jones got out to a 21-11 lead with 9:37 to play in the first half.

The Bears continued to fight back getting the lead down to 3 on a Leano Rolle slam from a Cy Merrett pass with 4:30 to play in the half.

Jones answered back going on a 13-7 run to finish the half and go up 41-32 over Southwest.

Leano Rolle opened up the half with a three pointer for the Bears, but Jones picked up right where they left off.

Every shot Jones took seemed to fall and the defense kept Southwest at bay.

Courterius Scott and Cy Merrett both had big halves with 14 and 10 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Jones lead.

The Bears would go on to lose 77-93.

Cy Merrett led the scoring for the Bears with 23 points with Courterius Scott just behind him with 20 points of his own.

"I thought their pressure really bothered us. We couldn't really get into a rhythm offensively. We made some plays there at the end of the first half to get their lead down to 2, but we couldn't ever sustain anything. So, hats off to them for that," said Head Coach Corey Schmidt.

"Chidi got into foul trouble really early which changed up some stuff for us, especially on the defensive end," said Coach Schmidt, "we tried to make some adjustments but couldn't find anything that worked and struggled to consistently get stops. Just all around a frustrating game on both ends."

"Not the way we wanted the season to end, when you have a team that's capable of winning a championship and you don't it's always disappointing. But definitely some things on the year to be proud of," said Coach Schmidt, "we got off to a tough start with our extremely difficult non-conference schedule. It could have deflated us but instead it just got us more prepared for conference play. I'm very proud of 10 conference wins and the 2nd seed. We just need to continue to build off this momentum to get over that hump."

The Bears finish the season with a 17-15 overall record with a 10-4 conference record after making it to the semifinal round of the Region 23 Playoffs.
