Box Score Southwest Lady Bears Soccer had arguably its greatest start to a season to date in 2025. However, the undefeated run came to an unfortunate end Friday night at the hands of the No. 12 Gulf Coast Bulldogs by a score of 4-1.
"They are 12
th in the nation and our conference, we say it time and time again, is super-competitive," Southwest head coach Nicole Cooper said. "We knew that we had a challenge tonight and just in certain moments, we were inconsistent and it cost us goals."
The Lady Bears (6-1-2, 2-1-1 MACCC) fell behind early as the Bulldogs scored on a corner kick in the 17
th minute.
Southwest continued to fight but couldn't find the equalizer. The deficit unfortunately grew in the 51
st minute as Gulf Coast took advantage of a rebound before putting the ball in the back of the net making it a 2-0 game.
With just under 12:00 to go Gulf Coast scored a third goal and unfortunately 2:00 later, the Bulldogs added another increasing the deficit to 4.
Southwest got on the board in the 80
th minute as Nicole Galvan took a free kick from about 30 yards out and placed it beautifully pulling the Lady Bears within three at 4-1.
The score provided momentum, but Southwest ran out of time as the Bulldogs walked away with the win.
The Lady Bears return to action on Friday visiting Hinds at 5 p.m.
