Bears get straight-set victory at Meridian

Box Score Getting into rhythm was key for the Bears Wednesday on the road as they did so in the latter half of all three sets, pulling away to defeat Meridian in straight sets 25-19, 25-17, 25-12.

"We always love a conference win regardless of how it comes," Southwest Head Coach Chris Laird said. "Our focus is to continue to improve and play together and we did a decent job of controlling the ball. I'm very proud that we finished in 3 sets instead of allowing a fourth. That is always something for us to celebrate!

Early on, the Bears (3-9, 2-3 MACCC) got off to a positive start scoring the first four points of the match. Even though Meridian came back, key plays from Reagan Robinson and Haley Eckert helped the Bears keep pace.

Toward the latter stages of the first set, the Bears went on a run and finished the first set strong, setting the tone.

Tierra Martin kicked off the scoring in the second set for Southwest and once again, the back-and-forth battle ensued until around the midway point of the set when the Bears went on a run and finished strong moving to the third set.

In the third, another strong start for the visitors proved beneficial as they rode that momentum for the remainder of the set getting the final point on a kill from Gracie Amacker to claim the third set and the match.

Southwest returns to action on Monday, hosting Northwest at 6 p.m. During the match, the Bears will honor the 1973 Southwest Volleyball Team, the final one prior to the sport being disbanded before this year's comeback.
