Lady Bears roll past Southern-Shreveport, 67-46

After a somewhat slow start, the Lady Bears in the end had an easy time of  it as they defeated the visiting Southern-Shreveport Lady Jaguars 67-46 in the opening night on the Coca-Cola Classic.
 
Shreveport led 2-0 and 9-6 in the first quarter before the Lady Bears (2-2) began to put things together. With the score tied 9-9, a Gracie Miller layup jump started a 9-0 run for the Lady Bears that left them with an 18-9 left after the first 10:00 of play.
 
The run continued in the second quarter as the Lady Bears outscored the visitors 20-8, including seven points from Kori Ware and six from Mercedes Dorsey, to hold a 38-22 advantage at the end of the first half.
 
Nothing changed in the second half for the Lady Bears. A three-point play from Mady Smith put the home team on top 45-23 in the third quarter. They then took a 53-32 lead going into the final quarter.
 
A bucket from Miller with 8:00 left in the game gave the Lady Bears their largest lead of the night, 57-32, as they went on to claim the win.
 
"I was proud of our effort tonight," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "Mercedes did some good things in the poste and we took care of the basketball."
 
Dorsey topped the Lady Bears' offense with 22 points in the game while Ware was also in double figures with 12 points.
 
The Lady Bears hit 12 of 18 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears close out the Classic Tuesday night with a 5:30 matchup against LSU-Eunice.
