Not even 24 hours removed from a 1-1 opening day of the Gulf Shores Tournament, the Bears closed out the event on Saturday with another split, dropping a hard-fought opening contest against Northeast Mississippi 2-3 before getting a straight-set victory over Reid State.
"We had opportunities in that first match to win and came out a little flat in the fifth (set) and still had some opportunities to win but didn't capitalize. In the second match, we played a little bit better. The team wasn't as strong than the team before and we were thankful to get a sweep," Southwest head coach Chris Laird said.
The Bears (5-16) return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Northwest Mississippi.
