Both Men's and Women's Tennis was hoping to kick off the Dean Clower era on a high note Tuesday against Alcorn State, but the Braves were a bit too much for the Bears as Southwest fell 7-0 in women's play and 6-1 in men's. The matches were held at Co-Lin in Wesson.
"We definitely have some bright spots," Clower said. "But from man to man and lady to lady, they were a better team than us, honestly."
Among the highlights for the Bears was on the men's side where singles No. 1 Mansur Khajimuradov won his singles match and was a part of the doubles No. 1 team with Manan Kumar that won their doubles match.
Clower adds that Kumar came close to winning his singles No. 2 match falling just short in the tiebreaker third set.
Both teams will be back in action on Feb. 7 as they travel to Raymond to face Hinds in non-conference action.
