The Bears kept No. 10 Jones in check for nearly the entirety of Tuesday's conference match, before overcoming a late Bobcat goal with one of their own as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
"Very, very proud of the guys for not giving up and getting a point on the road," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "That is a very good team that we played against and honestly I thought that we played well the entire match."
Even though the offense of the Bears (6-4-2, 2-2-2 MACCC) kept pushing ahead, it couldn't light up the scoreboard. On the other hand, the defense shut down the high-powered Bobcat offense for most of the match.
In his first start of the season, freshman goalkeeper Carson Lee shined, recording seven saves on the evening.
With just over :20 to go, the Bobcats scored on a rebound following a corner kick.
Despite this, the Bears had one final push in them, and they broke through. A free kick found its way into the box and even though a Jason Dykes shot was unsuccessful, Jack Boyd followed with a goal on the rebound, tying the match at 1 with just :08 to go.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday facing Hinds in Raymond at 7 p.m.
