Bears fall to No. 4 Northwest Florida on the road

Fresh off a lengthy break over the holiday season, the Bears put forth a good effort, but it wasn't enough as they came up short against the No. 4 Northwest Florida Raiders, 84-57, on the road, Saturday.

"I thought that we had good effort, and the energy was good, but we have to have better focus and attention to detail on some things," Southwest head coach Corey Schmidt said. "That Is why today is so frustrating. We left a lot out there."

The Bears (8-5) had some difficulty in the first half trying to get into a rhythm against a tough Raider defense. Both Mark Drone and Deon Brown led Southwest in scoring in the first half with six points apiece with both of Brown's makes coming from beyond the 3-point line. Despite this, the Bears trailed 37-21 at the half.

In the second half, the Bears tried to claw their way back, but the slow start proved to be too much to overcome. Jashawne Joseph ramped-up his play in the second half with a couple of 3-pointers as he finished with 12 points. Tylik Weeks led Southwest with seven rebounds to go along with nine points, matching Brown's scoring total.

The Bears have a quick turnaround as they will travel once again on Tuesday taking an hour and a half trip south to New Orleans to face Delgado at 6 p.m.
