Lady Bears come up short in regular season opener

Even though they put up a fight, trying to kick off their season on a high note, the Lady Bears were unable to get things going early on, falling to Columbia State 4-1 Saturday in Foley, AL.

"They are a really good team with a lot of depth on their bench," Daigle Cooper said of Columbia State. "Honestly, I think that we figured out our new formation that we will be playing. We are still trying to figure out the kinks before we get into conference play."

The Lady Bears (0-1) fell behind early as the Lady Chargers quickly set the tone scoring four first-half goals.

Despite being down 4-0 late in the first half, the Lady Bears' offense rallied and found success as Maylee McLeod set up Kayla Martin for a shot in which the Luling, LA-native nailed putting Southwest on the board.

The goal helped breathe new life into the Lady Bears on the defensive end as they pitched a shutout in the second half of play, however, they could not muster up any more offense as the Lady Chargers sealed the win.

Southwest will be back in action on Thursday as the Lady Bears open their home slate at 5 p.m. against Tougaloo.
