Bears, Pearl River battle to a 1-1 draw

The Bears entered Tuesday's match against Pearl River looking to wrap their four-game road trip on a positive note and after battling early on with the Wildcats, the match ended in a 1-1 draw

"It was a hard-fought game," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "Pearl River is always a strong team so obviously going there and playing away is tough. Honestly I'm happy because we didn't get scored on in play, they needed a penalty to do it."

The Bears (6-1-4, 3-1-2 MACCC) struck first as Rory Humphrey sent a ball into the opposing goal on a header and assist from Justin Ruiz in the 22nd minute giving Southwest a 1-0 advantage.

However about 19 minutes later the Wildcats answered back with the equalizer on a penalty kick, tying the match at 1.

Both teams continued to fight, trying to break the tie but the opposing defenses locked down preventing any additional offense for the remainder of the match.

Southwest returns home Saturday to face Hinds at 4 p.m.
