In a low-scoring affair Monday night, the Lady Bears picked up an MACCC South Division 55-52 win over the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast to sweep the season series.

With the win, the Lady Bears moved to 6-3, 6-3 on the season while Gulf Coast fell to 3-7, 3-7.

A Sydni Tangle three pointer with 8:12 left in the first quarter gave the Lady Bears a 5-2 lead. They would take their largest lead of the half, 14-6, with 1:22 on the clock and took a 14-8 advantage into the second quarter.

Another Tangle trey, with 5:31 left in the second quarter, had the Lady Bears on top 19-12. Gulf Coast, however, would outscore the Lady Bears 13-5 the remainder of the quarter to take a 25-24 lead at intermission.

The Lady Bears took a 34-33 lead on an Analya White bucket with 2:42 left in the third quarter, but Gulf Coast would force a 37-37 tie with one quarter remaining.

The Lady Bears seemed to have things well in hand when six straight points from Mikayla Etienne put them on top 51-40 with 4:20 left in the game.

Gulf Coast, however, refused to give in and pulled to within 53-52 with 0:07 on the clock. A pair of Etienne free throws, with 0:05 showing, provided the final points of the game and gave the Lady Bears their margin of victory.

"I'm very proud of our team, especially defensively; we found enough stops," said Lady Bears head  coach Brent Harris "Shylia McGee was a force on the boards, Jerryonne Owens was big in the post in the third (quarter) and Mikayla made two big free throws."

Etienne led the Lady Bears in scoring with 13 points while Tangle was also in double figures with 11.

The Lady Bears were 4-8 at the free throw line.

TK Catchings scored 16 points for Gulf Coast to lead all scorers. She and her teammates made 11 of 16 free throws.

The Lady Bears hit the road to Decatur for their next contest as they visit East Central Community College on March 10. Tipoff is set for 6:00.
