In yet another down-to-the-wire affair, the Bears suffered a tough loss on the road in Decatur as they fell to the East Central Warriors, 87-86.

The loss dropped the Bears to 7-3 on the season.

The Warriors took an early 5-0 lead. A pair of Javius Moore buckets then brought the Bears to within 7-4 with 18:09 left in the opening half.

With 11:27 left in the half, the Warriors took their largest lead of the half, 23-14. A Mykayle Carter layup and Lafollette Bogan jumper then served as bookends to a 15-5 run by the Bears that put them on top 29-28 with 5:25 on the clock.

The Bears took their largest lead of the half, 32-30, on a Querrion Gadson two-pointer with 4:34 showing.

A 13-5 run by the Warriors to close out the half left them with a 43-37 advantage at intermission.

In the first 5:09 of the second half, the Warriors built a 10-point lead on three separate occasions, the last being 56-46 with 14:51 left to play.

A 16-7 run by the Bears, with 11 points coming from Mazae Blake, then put them back on top 63-62.

The teams continued to battle back and forth the remainder of the game until the Bears led 86-85 with 1:04 to go.

But, a win was not in the cards as the Warriors scored with 0:06 on the clock to pick up the win.

"Tonight, we found ourselves on the other end of a close game," said Bears head coach Bryan Bender. "There were a lot of positives and negatives that can come from or performance, but most importantly we must stick together."

"One of our core values is humility," Bender continued, "which in our program is about being for one another, being humble and being for the team first. We had some guys (who) really stepped up tonight, especially our freshmen. Mazae had 28 points and Javius continued his stellar play with a 20-point game. But, attitudes as a whole need to be for each other."

"The next best action will come quickly," Bender concluded, "as we will play our fourth game in a week. We will all look in the mirror, all will get better and learn the value of every possession and, as I've said before, life will reward actions and behaviors must follow suit."

Blake's 28 points led all scorers in the game. Moore totaled 20 points while Carter tallied 13.

The Bears made 19 of 24 free throws.

Devin Carter scored 26 points to pace the Warriors' offense. He and his teammates combined to go 16-25 at the free throw line.

The Bears return home for their next action when they host the East Mississippi Lions at 2:00 on February 27.
